Upgrading sports lighting to Swiss football league and UEFA standards

As one of the major sports venues in French-speaking Switzerland, the Stade de la Maladière required a modern lighting system. To ensure compliance with current Swiss Football League and UEFA regulations, the City of Neuchâtel partnered with Schréder for a comprehensive system upgrade.
 

Engineering LED floodlights for complex stadium architecture 

The project involved replacing the old solution of 192 traditional discharge floodlights with a sustainable, high-performance LED alternative. Schréder engineered a custom lighting design to overcome the stadium’s unique architecture, which is defined by four corner masts combined with fixtures integrated directly beneath the stand roofs. This design turned complex technical constraints into an optimised visual performance.
 

Achieving UEFA level B certification with BRITELINE floodlights

A total of 94 state-of-the-art BRITELINE LED floodlights were installed on the masts. This installation delivers crisp, glare-free lighting for players, spectators, and high-definition television broadcasts, fully satisfying the criteria for UEFA Level B certification.
 

Maximising energy efficiency and performance 

The results exceed the official requirements, achieving an average horizontal illuminance of over 1,900 lux with exceptional uniformity As well as improving visual comfort, the upgrade significantly reduces energy consumption compared to the previous setup, directly supporting the City of Neuchâtel’s long-term sustainability goals.
